Pork Loin Steaks with Spiced Pear Sauce
Pork loin steaks are something I've kind of ignored previously I just remember them as being dry and kind of boring. Lately though I've been experimenting as they are so much cheaper than chicken breasts and if done right can be great.

This spice pear sauce goes so well with pork that you don't need to do anything special with the steaks to really make the whole dish come alive. The sweetness of the pears combined with some great spices gives you a strong flavoured sauce that allows the pork to really shine without overpowering it's flavour.
Method
Ok lets start with the sauce as you can do this ahead of time and heat through when ready. Very little prep involved here so just peel and core the pears then chop them into 1 cm cubes. Now add all the spices with the veg oil to a small saucepan and heat through for a minute until the spices become fragrant. Now add in the chopped pears and continue to fry for 2 minutes until they are starting to soften on the outside.

Once that's done add in the vinegar, sugar and water and simmer for 20 minutes with the lid on until the pears have really softened and you can crush them with the back of a spoon. This could take a bit longer if the pears aren't quite ripe but once they crush easily then you are done. Give them a gentle crush so you get a good mix of mushed pear and little nuggets.

Once this is done you can heat with the lid off for 2 minutes or so until the sauce is thickened and you can pull it to one side with a spoon without it immediately flowing back. It should ooze back slowly to cover the pan.

Set this aside and turn your attention to the pork as you will reheat the sauce when you are ready to go. For this we are keeping it simple as the sauce has plenty of flavour to go around so just season the steaks with a bit of salt and pepper and dust with a teaspoon of dried oregano. Pu these in a roasting tray in the oven at 180c (360f) for 20 mins per 1cm thickness of steaks.

Most supermarket steaks will be pretty thin probably only just over 1cm so 20mins will be enough but if you have nice thick ones from a butchers adjust accordingly. I like them with some roast baby potatoes so cook the potatoes for 30 mins then throw the steaks on top for the last 20.

Just before the steaks are done reheat the pear sauce and serve with the veg of your choice (leeks and potatoes are a favourite of mine)
